Since representations of Japan are certainly in the perview of  
KineJapan, I hope this doesn't seem too far afield for the list. The  
current cover of the National Review does a riff on Sotomayor's "wise  
Latina" remark by Asian-izing her. But the conventions the artist  
draws on come straight from racist WWII caricature of the Japanese.  
Amazing to see in 2009. These popular stereotypes are incredibly  
durable.
