Tohoscope/Cinemascope

Hello,

Recently, when using different anamorphic lenses myself, I was  
wondering what the difference(s) between Tohoscope and Cinemascope is?  
 From a technical point of view both are 2.35 up to 2.66 aspect ratio.
So are there any other substantial differences or was Tohoscope a  
"homemade" (cheaper?) way of introducing Cinemascope in Japan and  
avoiding that way paying for the rights?
