Contact Hara directly for Hatsukuni shirasumera mikoto. This is 1973 epic, which Yamagata revived in the 90s in a shortened version (I think the original was like 8 hours long; now it's down to something like a couple). It was shot on 16mm and 8mm with dual projection. He now has many version of this, and the most recent iteration I've seen (at Yamagata last year) stood out for me. Maybe it was the jet lag. But I got beyond his terrible live singing and enchanted by the landscapes. Hara's selling multiple versions on DVD, each shot at a different location with a unique live performance. I bought one, asking for what he thought was the best version. As you might expect, it's better live; but it's nice to have.

Dear Kinejapaners,
I recently got very interested in the works of Hara Masato and I was
wondering if any of his "movies", besides "20th Century Nostalgia",
were available on DVD or other formats.
Thanks for your help,
