Death by Hanging in Screen

Hi, Shota,
'Death by Hanging' and 'Boy' were both screened at the LFF in 1969, and I would have thought most Oshima films would make the Festival in this era. It was, however, 1983 when he got a season at the BFI and at Edinburgh.
BFI's 'Japan~ Contemporary Directors' in 1974 included Oshima's 'Three Resurrected Drunkards' and 'Japan~History through Cinema' in 1975 had 'Night and Fog in Japan'.
It's pretty likely that other cinemas would have been showing Oshima at this time, and this was an era when the BBC gave access to films not generally available, but I don't have details.
Roger
