One book for that is

Hosokawa Shuhei. Shinama-ya, Burajiru o yuku: Nikkei imin no kyoshu to  
aidentiti (Shinchosha, 1999).

Some fascinating stories on using benshi after WWII to hide the fact  
that Japan lost the war, etc.
