Quijada in jidaigeki

Dear colleagues
Could anyone tell me if they know of any examples of the use of quijada, the Latin American percussion, in Japanese jidaigeki?I know that this originates in Kurosawa's Sanjuro, and I have seen the instrument play an important role at the climax of the tv series of Abarenbo shogun. Does anybody also know if composer Masaru Sato explained how he got this idea? Many thanks.
