For those interested, I finally wrote up a post on my blog announcing the passing away of the pioneer animation director Seo Mitsuyo. I had rumors about this for a while, but for some reason there had been no obituaries. It was only a couple posts on the Asahi shinbun site that give me confidence to come out. He was 99.
Seo was an important innovator in the prewar era, and is most known for directing the two wartime Momotaro films that count as the first feature length Japanese animated films.
