One of the great postwar actresses.
Her performance in Meoto-Zenzai was simply brilliant.
Yes,her brother Yusuke Steve Nakagawa was an animator and worked with Willie Ito (Disney-Hanna Barbera).
Nakagawa worked for Rankin/Bass,the American production company although most of the work was done in Japan at Toei Animation.
Ribon No Kishi comes as no surprise since Tezuka was much inspired by the Takarazuka Revue:

The news reports say that the great actress Awashima Chikage passed away. Not that well known abroad because she often did comedy (though she was great at serious roles as well), she was a force to be missed.

The Japanese Wikipedia article contains a bunch of interesting trivia, such as that Awashima was the model for Tezuka Osamu's Ribon no kishi, or that her younger brother was a Hanna Barbera animator, but I'll wait to see extra proof of that.
