Dear KineJapaners,
If you happen to be in the LA/Santa Barbara area, please join me for the screening on this Tuesday (April 29. 7:00PM) of Ashes to Honey (2010, dir. Kamanaka Hitomi), the third and last installment of the Pollock Theater film series, "Nuclear Japan: Japanese Cinema Before and After Fukushima." This highly acclaimed documentary focuses on longterm struggles of the local residents in the Inland Sea of Japan to prevent the construction of a nuclear power plant. With its global eco-feminist perspective, the film will be instructive to anyone who wishes to make a critical shift from destructive nuclear power to renewable energy sources.
I am very excited to announce that the director Kamanaka will join us via Skype for the Q & A session after the screening. This session will be moderated by Prof. ann-elise lewallen (UCSB, East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies).
