Dear fellow listmembers,

This is not exclusively
Japanese film related, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the 8th
Asia House Film Festival will be taking place in London at the end of this
month, from 22nd Feb to 5th March, with most of the
screenings at the newly reopened Regent Street Cinema, the birthplace of cinema
in the United Kingdom, with a day devoted to “Singaporeana”, or
British/American productions of the 1960s-70s set in Singapore and panel
discussion happening on 5 March at the Cinema Museum.

The full details of the
programme can be seen here:

And to whet your appetite,
the festival trailer can be viewed here: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.youtube.com_watch-3Fv-3DWj7E31sacqs&d=CwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=e7qMG9KFq7WNnPQWULWHJA&m=L35yJr0ng-ibd1H5FmtcstlKllFEsAssepyqn5T3aWw&s=0JZoSWeBFh3q8Gek28tDPyT9nMe3FGQaKr0HugzKCQQ&e=

The Japan-related aspects of
the programme include Shunji Iwai’s first anime, The Case of Hana and Alice (Hana
to Alice satsujin jiken) and the short film Panchagavya by New York-based Hana Kitasei, shot in India.

Elsewhere there are plenty of
films from other countries less well-represented on the world stage, including Mina Walking from Afghanistan, The Monk from Myanmar, 40 Days of Silence from Uzbekistan, Factory Boss from China, and Stranger and Little Brother - two wonderful works from one of my most exciting
discoveries in years, the Kazakh director Yermek Tursunov.

Also I should draw attention
to the highly enjoyable Seoul Searching,
by Korean-American director Benson Lee, a wonderful teen movie set in the
summer of 1986 and featuring a diverse group of Korean teenagers from around
the world who arrive in Seoul to take part in a special summer camp where they
have been sent by their parents to learn what it truly means to be Korean.
There’s going to be a special themed party for all ticket holders to this movie
after the screening.

Hope to see some of you
there!

Thanks,

Jasper
