To the members of KineJapan,

I've already sent a version of this email to the site administrators,
however perhaps the extended members of the Kinema CLub might be able to
help extend the research effort!

My name is Hailey Lain, and I am currently a college student in the United
States of America at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, pursuing
a degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in Traditional Animation.
Recently, I discovered a very old cartoon from 1967 titled "Golden Bat (黄金
バット)." It was translated and brought overseas to several countries, but as
of today only certain versions of it still exist to common knowledge. The
Italian version, localized as "Fantaman," has been posted to Youtube in its
entirety. The English version, however, localized as "Phantaman" (where
the titular character's name within the show was "Phantoma, Warrior of
Justice") seems to have fallen into obscurity due to the fact that it was
only ever broadcast in English in Australia starting in the year 1968 and
was never released on VHS or DVD.

Because of the show's age and the fact that no episodes have ever been
shared online, it's believed that nobody thought to record the episodes as
they were airing on television. There is, however, evidence that it did
once exist in English, according to one very low-quality recording on
Youtube, linked here:

...and a web page dedicated to what information is still known about the
show as it existed in English, linked here:

I have been putting feelers out all over the place to see if there might
yet be any trace of the English dub of the series as it was once broadcast
in Australia. To date, I have contacted the US Library of Congress, the
National Library of Australia, Nine Network (on which the cartoon once
aired), Mr. Burr Middleton (who provided the English voices for many of the
show's characters), Network Ten (on which the cartoon also aired in the
sixties and seventies), and several other organizations dedicated to the
preservation and research into film and television history.

I was wondering if perhaps there might be any record of Phantaman or
Phantoma (or, potentially, "Golden Bat" or "Ougon Batto") that the members
of the Kinema Club might be able to help to find, and, if so, would there
be any way for them to info me on it? Anything would help, be it the
actual episodes, the audio recordings for the English airings, scripts, or
even just a lead to further my research in a different direction.

Thank you so incredibly much in advance, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers!

Sincerely,
Hailey Lain
