[KineJapan] Tomita Isao

The composer Tomita Isao has passed away at the age of 84. Many now know of him as one of the pioneers of synthesizer music, but he also wrote the music for the first NHK Taiga Drama as well as music for many anime, including Kimba the White Lion and Princess Knight, and the movies A Thousand and One Nights and Cleopatra. He was also very active as a composer for film, doing such films as Uchida’s Kiga kaikyo, Fukasaku’s Okami to buta to ningen, and Shinoda’s Demon Pond. In the last two decades, he also composed the music for many Yamada Yoji films, including Twilight Samurai, which I showed in class this term.
