Hello,
I think the best book I read on the subject is Stephane du Mesnildot's
"Fantômes du cinéma japonais", focusing on the 90's J-horror wave but also
tracking its sources in the cinema from previous eras and traditional folk
tales. Unfortunately, I think it's only available in french.
