The festival’s Centerpiece Presentation is the North American Premiere of Shuichi Okita’s Mori, The Artist’s Habitat. Star Kirin Kiki will join the screening to receive the CUT ABOVE Award for Outstanding Performance in Film. Other early announcements for JAPAN CUTS 2018 include the North American Premiere of Kazuo Hara’s Sennan Asbestos Disaster with Hara and producer Sachiko Kobayashi in attendance, the International Premiere of Moët Hayami’s KUSHINA, what will you be, recipient of the 2018 JAPAN CUTS Award at the 2018 Osaka Asian Film Festival, the U.S. Premiere of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Yocho (Foreboding), as well as the East Coast Premiere of Masaaki Yuasa’s Night is Short, Walk on Girl.
