Dear all,Firstly, please let me mention a review of 'Fake' that's just gone up on the website of the Japan Society of the UKhttps://www.japansociety.org.uk/44869/fake-directed-by-mori-tatsuya/And, perhaps, there may be a member of this list could clarify something from that film.Chris Beam, who wrote the piece in 'New Republic' (the link is in my review) appears in Mori's film. And so does his collaborator, whom Beam refers to as "my translator, David'.Could someone help me be more polite and duly attributing by putting a name to this face, please?I shall try and attach a screen shot. But, in any case, the film is showing tomoroow evening, Saturday, as Jasper announced below.Roger

The new Aperture: Asia & Pacific Film Festival, of which I am co-founder, covering all areas east of the Urals up to Hawaii, will be starting in London on 29 June with two programmes of short films at the Horse Hospital near Russell Square.

The first programme, ‘Women in the Frame’ is a selection of titles by and about women, from countries including Armenia, Georgia, Bhutan and Vietnam.

The second is called UnorthoDocs, and features short documentary and experimental works exploring ideas of geography, territory and landscapes, both natural and manmade, through vision and sound, with films from India, Hawaii, New Zealand and Armenia, among others.

This section features a quite stunning contribution from a Japanese filmmaker, Hiroya Sakurai’s STREAM VIII (2016), a film that really has to be experienced on a big screen.

The main day of the festival will beon Sat 30 Jun at The Cinema Museum, where films will include the first Afghan feature directed by a woman in the post-Taliban era,Roya Sadat’s LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT, and Malaysian director Edmund Yeo’s AQERAT (WE THE DEAD), a powerful and timely drama about human trafficking and theRohingya refugee crisis.

Of most interest to Japanese film fans however is the long overdue UK premiere of Tatsuya Mori’s documentary FAKE, about the self-taught deaf musical prodigy Mamoru Samuragochi, once dubbed “Japan’s Beethoven” but later denounced a fraud by the Japanese media, which plays at the Cinema Museum day from 7pm:http://www.cinemamuseum.org. uk/2018/aperture-asia-pacific- film-festival/

Complete details about the festival can be found here: http://www.day-for-night.org/ aperture/
