News reports say that the actor Takashima Tadao died on June 26th at age 88. He joined the film industry in 1951 as a Shintoho New Face, and was first known for the Botchan series, but he hit his stride in the 1960s especially through Toho musicals such as Kimi mo shusse ga dekiru (one of my favorites!). He also appeared in a number of Godzilla films and was a common face on television in both dramas and shows he hosted. He married the Takarazuka star Sumi Hanayo in 1963, and their two sons Takashima Masahiro and Takashima Masanobu are both famous actors. Tragedy struck the family, however, when in 1964 their first son was murdered by the family maid as a baby in a famous incident. R.I.P.
