News outlets in Japan report that Kyo Machiko, arguably the greyest
actress of the 1950s has died yesterday at 95. Her work is obviously
well-known to everyone here, but her wider recognition was achieved
probably thanks to her roles in films such as Rashomon, Ugetsu, and
Floating Weeds.
She was less active after the postwar golden age days, but her place
in the history of Japanese cinema is secured for eternity. I am sure
many other list-members would have more to add.
