Hi

I recently wrote an article for the Australian Humanities Review on the soundtrack to Adachi Masao’s 1969 documentary film, Ryakushô Renzoku Shasatsuma. I hope it will be of interest to KineJapan members. I’m interested to find out about other papers that discuss Adachi's and also Wakamatsu Koji’s use of experimental music and free jazz in their respective works. The music of artists such as Togashi Masahiko, Yamashita Yôsuke and Otomo Yoshihide have often been used as soundtrack accompaniments to Japanese films and I sense a lack of investigation into the relationship between radical cinema and Japanese noise, improvisation, free jazz and experimental music. Of course, this extends well beyond the work of the two directors mentioned above.
