Greetings.

I am a post-doc in the Molec. Biology Dept. at UW-Madison. I am
developing a project on the genetics and development of the melanic
phenotype in Biston betularia (peppered moth) and was wondering if
anyone knows of particular sites in the U.S. where the melanic morph
occurs at appreciable frequencies (say, above a few percent).
The work will require taking population samples of live-caught adults
to be frozen for genomic DNA extraction, as well as rearing the progeny
of live-caught females for analysis of gene expression in pupae using
immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. If any collectors would
like to work with us on this project, please e-mail me
(jrtrue at facstaff.wisc.edu).
Thanks in advance for any information/assistance.

John True
