To whomever asked me about the publication of Hypercompe as the
appropriate name for species formerly place in Ecpantheria,

(Sorry, but in my haste to answer e-mails, I deleted your
message!!)

Although the following reference may not have been the original
paper to use Hypercompe, the authors indicate the synonimization of
Ecpantheria with Hypercompe (and the references in it could lead you
to the original synonimization).

Allan Watson and D. T. Goodger. 1986. Catalogue of the
Neotropical Tiger Moths. Occasional Papers on Systematic Entomology
1. 71 pages. (put out by the British Museum, I believe -- please
excuse me if I'm wrong, my wife and I have a four month old son at
home [our first], and I frequently suffer from what i call "baby
head", a condition which leads to spaciness and an inability to
recall certain bits of information. I have a copy of Watson and
Goodger at home, but forgot to bring it in so that I could share all
of the details, like page numbers for the genus Hypercompe.)

    Hope this is useful.

        James
