Doug,  the soil in this area of NC is typically a hard red clay.  The
"digger wasp" / hornet (?) - size is at least as large as, and
slightly longer than,  the more common black hornet which builds the
ash-colored spherical nests in trees.  I had wondered for some time
about the nest info on the yellow-orange crttier.  Certainly, "peace".

Anne,  your eco-message comes through clearly relative to the
gardening-project and classes taught.  I can imagine your shagrin at
the class-lesson oversight !  Congrats on  the classes,  however.
Your perference  "as a poet" surprised me !   "Different strokes....".
