I recently received a caterpillar, from a teacher in my school
district, whose ID has me baffled. Your assistance will be greatly
appreciated.
This critter is a hornworm of some 70 mm in length. Green is the basic
ground color (lightish to medium. Dorsolaterally the areas to be a two
rows (one on each side) of brownish lines that merge into eyespots
dorsolaterally. The frontal eyespots are enlarged and become more so when
the larva is at rest.
I believe the larva to be a Tersa Moth larva(Sphingidae) as I tentatively
ID the host plant as _Penta_ or star cluster. However, I can not find a
photo of the larva anywhere.
TIA :-)
