A small correction: So-called 'structural colors' in butterflies
and moths are produced by _diffraction_, not by refraction. The surface
of the scale has parallel striations, and forms a diffraction grating.
For structural colors, the light you see has been _reflected_ from (and
diffracted by) the scale's surface, not refracted by it.
