Collecting in New Zealand???

I'll be travelling on the southern island in the second half of
November.  Although my primary activities will be botanical, I
was hoping to perhaps get some lepping in on the side.  Can anyone
provide info on the legalities of collecting in NZ?  And how about
a succinct explanation of what I'll need to do to bring legally
collected specimens back to the states?
