I have also used frenulum as good character for indentification of sex.
It is chitinized strong 'hair' in the underside of the forewing. It
exists atleast in all the DITRYSIA species. Males have only single
strong hair near the body and females multiplicated =more than one... 

This way it is possible to identificate sex from a single forewing. Of
course you need microscope or some other magnificative things...
