what do Monarch butterfly larvae eat?

Around here (RI) they feed on milkweed plants, which are poisonous to most
everything else. Kids raise the larvae on the leaves till they pupate, then
after the butterfly emerges, set them free. Great for getting kids interested
because they are easy to raise!
