I thought the following info would be interesting about the range of the
butterfly.
While on 2-week business in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, USA, (September 15,
1997) I had plenty of time to butterfly hunt. As I had never been to the
SOUTH, living in Wisconsin all my life, I was very intrigued by the
different species.
The first day I hunted, I located a Great Purple Hairstreak. It was feeding
from a flower and undulating its wings together. I at first thought it was
a wasp type species because of the strange movement and pinkish abdoment.
It is the only one I encountered during the 2 weeks. The butterfly was in
mediocre condition and therefore was released.
