I'm not debating this statement and assuming it's true why are there
such tight restrictions on the legal shipment of lepidoptera livestock
around the U.S.?
As just one example, there must have been thousands of luna moth cocoons
and eggs sent to California over the years but they are nowhere to be found
in the wild here. Who cares if they get sent here?
Why can't we have a list of banned lepidoptera that could really cause a
problem if shipped around and let everything else be traded without going
through a lengthy permit process.
What we have now is an underground trade with people shipping livestock all
over the country without permits anyway. Wouldn't it be better to have a
list of the "problem species" and let everything else go?
