Hi!

Ken Warren reported at a recent L.A. NABA meeting that he had been
seeing Sara Orangetips at the George F Canyon Preserve on Palos Verdes
Peninsula since late January. Also seen: White Checkered-Skippers,
Monarch, Mourning Cloak and Marine Blues.

Understand the deserts, after considerable winter rains, have early and
extensive flowers as far north as Death Valley. (Known plants reported:
Sand Verbena, Brittlebush, and Octotillo starting.) Anxious to get to
Anza Borego for annual trip in 10 days.

Spent a day birding in Antelope Valley last week and had smatterings of
Painted Ladies all over--at least 60. May be a good flight year....
Fred Heath reported a probable Spring White the previous week and I had
a possible Marble.

Yard butterflies are West Coast Ladies, Cabbage Whites & occasional
Monarchs.
