Moth identification

Here's a few pictures of an absolutely beautiful moth that appeared
on my porch one night...

Can anyone help with an identification? This was on the north
coast of California, close to the town of Fort Bragg. I'd like
to give this specimen a name rather than "moth", "large moth" or
"huge moth".

Kitty helped in capturing the moth; I helped to prevent it
from being eaten.

It was so large that it felt like it had bones in it's wings.

I placed the moth in a tupperware box in the fridge for about
5 minutes to slow it down to get good photos.

As it warmed back up, it shivered violently for a few minutes;
I sure felt bad! I tried to warm it up with the beam of a flashlight.

It flew away unharmed.
