They've been scarce in the Mendocino area (coastal N. Calif.) til about the 9th when Cotoneaster bushes started to bloom, maybe some butterflies have combined seasonal cues so they emerge at the same time as food becomes abundant, reguardless of any single cue (such as my calendar). Bill
