The number of species that are on the UK list is 58 in my opinion.
This includes migrant species that breed in the UK such as Painted
Lady (Cynthia cardui) and Clouded Yellow (Colias Croceus), but
cannot survive our winters.

This could be boosted to 60 if the Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros)
and Large Copper (Lycaena dispar batavus) are included. But these are now
generally considered to be extinct.

There is also potential for new resident species such as the Camberwell Beauty
and the Queen of Spain Fritillary (latin names not to hand), being added to
the list in the near future.
