FULL-TIME POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Department of Entomology

SENIOR MUSEUM SCIENTIST $3,108.00 - 3,892.00/month

Full-time career position in the Department of Entomology with the
following responsibilities: Under supervision of the Principal Museum
Scientist, (1) Curate and develop the Entomology Research Museum
collections of about 2 million specimens, including loans and exchanges
of material; development of biological and systematic information for
faculty, staff, and students; routine identifications; species/specimen
data-base, chemical and equipment inventories, and other record keeping.
Maintain and augment collections for reference, teaching, and research,
with special emphasis on the arthropod fauna of southern California (90%
time); (2) Prepare displays for the departmental outreach and make
presentations to the public. Maintain a small collection of live
arthropods for teaching and display.  Provide information for
maintenance of museum's WWW home page (10% time).  Responsibilities
include supervision of personnel assigned to the museum and volunteers.

Requirements/qualifications: Education and/or experience equivalent to a
graduate degree in Entomology or related discipline and experience in
insect curation required; demonstrated ability to supervise people and
interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, colleagues, and the
public; knowledge of insect taxonomy required, experience in the
systematics of one or several groups of insects desirable.  Prefer
experience with computerized data-base; skill in management of WWW
technology an asset.  Hired applicant must show proof of identity and
right to work in the United States and must be able to obtain a valid
California driver license.
