Large Skippers?

Today I saw two small leps fighting. They were moving too fast for sure
identification but they were tan-brown and the only butterfly of the right
size and colour that occurs to me is Large Skipper (Ochlodes venata). The
habitat was rough grass alongside a hedge. Has any one else seen them? It
is two days before the earliest record for Hertfordshire in Brian Sawford's
book. Also seen today, a Small Heath (Coenonympha pamphilus) on Harpenden
Common, early but not uniquely so.
