Large Skippers?

Today I saw two small leps fighting.  They were moving too fast for sure
identification but they were tan-brown and the only butterfly of the right
size and colour that occurs to me is Large Skipper (Ochlodes venata). The
habitat was rough grass alongside a hedge.  Has any one else seen them?  It
is two days before the earliest record for Hertfordshire in Brian Sawford's
book.  Also seen today, a Small Heath (Coenonympha pamphilus) on Harpenden
Common, early but not uniquely so.
