Butterfly with no mouth? Lifespan of 3 hours?? can anyone help?

I find that I am frequently told by people that they thought that butterflies
only live for a day. Perhaps they are being confused with mayflies which
certainly have a more ephemeral existance. It could be this that leads
to what Machelle recalls.
