 Well, that's one of those cases where the taxonomists just can't agree!!
Some think Cynthia is a genus in its own right, some consider it as a subgenus
of Vanessa and some as a junior synonym of Vanessa. If you refer to a fully
referenced checklist (rather than just a species list), the likelihood is that
Cynthia and Vanessa will be mentioned and, depending upon the view of the
list's author, in one of the states mentioned above.
