Roost preference

In response to Anne Kilmer's and Liz Day's inquiries about alternatives
to eucalyptus that would work as roosting trees in Pacific Grove, the
cold reality is that there simply aren't any. Monarch biologists and
foresters are in agreement on this point.

So the anti-exotic folks in Pacific Grove (which includes the mayor) are
caught between a rock and a hard place; they don't want to go on record
as approving the use of an exotic yet they don't want to see the
butterflies leave either.
