Hi, all LEPS-L members,

The adult of Zamacra(Apochima) juglansiaria Graeser emerges early
spring in Japan and male easily comes to light, though female is seldom
attracted to it. The moth is usually found resting in T-shape posture,
just it is illusted on Mr. Matsui's website.
In Japan we have three Zamacra (Apochima) species, juglansiaria, excavata
and praeacutaria. Zamacra(Apochima) excavata was once famous pest
seriously injuring mulbery, hostplant of silkworm bombyx mori in prewar
Japan. Recently excavata species is rather rare as the silkworm industries
 are declining in Japan.
I reared two species of them from egg to adult and confirmed that
the larvae of three species share morphological homologies and they are
quite different from those of Epiplema. I think that Zamacra species
should belong to Geometridae based on my own work on them.
I hope it would be of some help.
