I heard of a Peacock showing up on Jan 1st this year here in coastal
Essex.
Last year (1988) I also personally saw one, at 11:50 on January the
first, braving or possibly fighting a cool breeze in bright sun. It was
on the reserve that I look after. (Details on my webpage.)
I can't remember if I posted this, before, but I also found about 12
Peacock butterflies, hibernating in an airraid shelter, with a similar
nunmber of Herald Moths. I was working there installing some special
bricks for the benefit of bats.
Will bats, eat hibernating insects. Spiders seem to leave them alone.
