Sorry folks,
I'm afraid I wasn't paying attention the first time this message passed
through. Swallowtail butterlies in the genus Papilio, subgenus Achillides
are known as GLOSS swallowtails because of their metallic blue and green
wing scales. The typo threw me off. There is a good discussion of this
species distribution, foodplants, and life history in "Swallowtail
Butterflies of South East Asian Islands". If you are interested in what
Papilio karna looks like I have a photo online at
http://www.msu.edu/~kriegelr/backgrnd.htm. I have contacted the Shockleys
and I'll mail Jordan a copy of the information in the above book.
