Butterfly releases vs NABA counts

I don't follow the logic regarding the non-effect of releases on count 
data.  Since releases occur at a single point, one would have to argue 
that the butterflies then disperse completely uniformly over an 
infinitely large area (almost) in an infinitely short period of time. 

If releases occur close to an shortly before a count they could well 
influence the count results significantly.  If they occur far from a 
count (or after it), they probably won't.
