Journey North is winding down for another year, but will still accept
reports for its data base. I am particularly interested in "first"
monarch sightings" from Canada, but I am certain that first sightings of
the other species being monitored this year will be appreciated. Journey
North won a "Webby" award as the best science site on the Web.
In Ontario, monarchs have been sighted throughout south-western Ontario
from about May 10th. They have also been seen recently in Toronto and
Port Hope (about 110 km east of Toronto on the north shore of Lake
Ontario.
Some U.S. observers in the Pennsylvania area are wondering why they
haven't many yet, and why the monarchs apparently arrived in Canada
first (great foreign exchange rate on currency?).
Sightings contributions would be appreciated. Please send to this writer
or register with Journey North to report directly to the program
