James kruse:

Hemileuca maia is found through out much of north Florida. I have reared it
from an egg ring I found in the Turkey Oaks south of Williston on SR 121,
Levy County. I also found sevral larva at McKethan Lake, Withlacoochee State
Forest, Citrus County. I also found a single larva wandering on the ground
this past spring at Jonathan Dickenson State Park, Martin County. It pupated
and should emerge in December or January.
