One important claim made in this post was "east-west transfers [of monarch butterflies
across the Rocky Mountains] will very likely mask any degree of natural differentiation at
neutral genetic loci presently occurring in natural populations."

Since there are normally 200,000,000 monarch butterflies breeding east of the Rockies and
3,000,000 west of the Rockies, does anyone (Bruce Walsh?) know the mathematical
formula that a population geneticist would use to calculate how many monarchs would have
to be shipped over the Rockies east to west (or west to east) and at what fequency to likely
result in a short or long term "masking the natural differentiation at neutral genetic loci
presently occuring in these natural populations"?
