I've been too busy to dip into this list just lately and apologise if
someone has already posted the same information that follows, I only
downloaded the last few days postings.
I was interested to hear about the carrion, rotting flesh trapping of
butterflies. I have trapped butterflies extensively in Africa and it is the
only sensible way to catch Charaxes. However I did note that although lion
dung, rotting meat/rotting crabs etc did attract male Charaxes the females
never came near this bait. The most extensively used bait for trapping
Charaxes is fermenting bananas, not only hygienic but also traps both male
and female Charaxes. This does also attract V. atlanta, antiopa etc also.
Has anyone else used this bait? The Charaxes can become quite intoxicated by
the alcohol in the bait. I also agree with location quote Leroy made.
