Another very useful book (if you can get hold of it) is:
Illustrated papers on British Microlepidoptera, published by the
British Entomological & Natural History Society in 1978.
A collection of papers originally published in the Proceedings and
Transections of the South London Entomological & Natural History
Society journal between 1944 and 1957.
There are reasonable colour plates for all (?) the species described.
Papers deal with Eriocraniidae, Micropterygidae, Lampronidae and
Adelidae (now Incurvariidae), Psychidae, Lyonetiidae, Caloptila,
Lithocolletis (now Phyllonorycter), Glyphipterygidae (& allied
familes), Oecophoridae (&allied genera) & Mompha.
Several more papers have been published since in what became the
Proceedings and Transactions of the British Entomological and Natural
History Society - and is now called the British Journal of Entomology
and Natural History!!
The ones I know of are:
Sokoloff, P. (Nov. 1985). PTBENHS. Introduction to Gelechiidae. 18,
pp 99 - 106 (colour plate with a few species illustrated)
Agassiz, D.J.L. (Apr 1987). PTBENHS. The British Argyresthiinae and
Yponomeutinae. 20, 1 - 26 (Two colour plates - photos).
Sokoloff, P.A. & Bradford, E.S. (Apr 1990). BJENH. The British
species of Mezneria, Paltodora, Isophrictis, Apodia, Eulamprotes and
Argolamprotes (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). 3, 23-28.
Sokoloff, P.A. & Bradford, E.S. (Apr 1990). BJENH. The British
species of Mezneria, Paltodora, Isophrictis, Apodia, Eulamprotes and
Argolamprotes (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). 3, 23-28 (One colour plate.
Sokoloff, P.A. & Bradford, E.S. (July 1993). BJENH. The British
species of Monochroa, Chrysoesthia, Ptocheuusa and Sitotroga
(Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). 6, 37-44 (One colour plate).
Hope this is useful information.

I have discovered the joys of Moth trapping this year and have
become
hooked. Armed with "Skinner" and a knowledgeable friend to call on,
I
have managed to identify nearly all of the Macrolepidoptera I have
caught, but I would love to know more about identification of the
Micros. I have seen various books advertised, but before I fork out
any
money, I wondered what books are recommended by other UK moth
addicts.
I have seen advertised:
British Pyralid Moths by B Goater
Guide to the Smaller Lepidoptera by A Emmett
The Moths and Butterflies of GB and Ireland - the first four volumes
seem to deal with Micros.
What books do you all recommend, and are there other books that I
should
be getting hold of? Any help here for a newbie would be most
appreciated.
