butterfly biology - help wanted

Please help...,

My son has been trying to find information for a biology paper on why
butterflies have such a variety of color - does the color mean
something.  Does the cell structure, heat, or something else have any
relation to the butterflies' color.  He's looked up butterfly physiology
and cellular structure, but hasn't found any information as of yet.
Might you know where he can research this information?
