Try "Butterflies of North America" by James A. Scott (1986), and look under
"color" in the index. Most libraries have the book. "The Lives of
Butterflies" by Matthew M. Douglas (1986) is less commonly in libraries, but
is good. "Butterflies and Moths: a Companion to Your Field Guide" by Jo
Brewer and Dave Winter (1986) is also good.
