Migration

Hi
This is just relaying news from other sources. Following the strong weather
systems coming across the Atlantic a handful of reports of sightings of
Monarchs, Danaus plexippus, from the south west UK have been reported. A
couple from the Scilly Isles and a couple mainland Cornwall were reported on
22/9 and 23/9. A few years back (1995) we had a discussion on this list
about the viability of Monarchs making the journey across the Atlantic
(unaided, except by weather of course). Nick Bowles of Butterfly
Conservation predicted the arrival of the Monarchs back in 1995 and again
this year. This surely must point towards 'natural' migration across the
3000 miles of the Atlantic.
I have put the article I helped produce for Butterfly conservation magazine
on my site, follow general from the contents page. Bart Vanholder wrote a
somewhat more scientific piece for the S.E.L. nota which is on his
site.(http://www.club.innet.be/~pub00644/).
