I take it you mean changes in the relative proportion of melanism as proof
of evolution
working. I would agree that it is a demonstration of evolution, by
definition (such as
change in gene frequencies) but it is not necessarily proof that the same
kind of
process (differential selection and reproductive output) is responsible for
the representation of
any other particular characteristics of organisms, or characteristics in
general. As a matter of
popular opinion most evolutionists appear to extrapolate the selection
process as being
responsible or primary as the mechanism for "adaptation".
